We used the Family Mediation Session for a conversation about our mother's care that had been put off for about two years. Having the agenda written down before we arrived made a real difference — my sister and I arrived knowing what we were going to discuss, which took some of the tension out of it. The note we left with was useful to have at home in writing.

My two brothers and I used the Sibling Caregiver Coordination service for our father's care arrangements. The practitioner spoke with each of us separately first, which I think helped. The document we ended up with was straightforward and covered the points we had been arguing about without resolving them through argument. I would have liked slightly more guidance on what happens if one of us wants to change something later, though this was explained when we asked.

We had a complex situation — family property, money my brother had borrowed from our parents, and questions about who would take responsibility for our grandmother. The Multi-Party Settlement covered all of it in one document. The process took about three weeks, which felt right. We did not feel rushed and the final document was identical for each of us, which matters.

The remote session option was important for us because one of my siblings lives in Chiang Mai. We were able to hold the mediation via video call and the process felt essentially the same as an in-person session would have been, based on what I had expected. The written agenda was shared in advance and the outcome note arrived within two days.

I had some concerns about whether a mediation would actually produce anything binding, and this was addressed clearly when I made the initial enquiry. The explanation of what the outcome note is and what it is not was honest and helped me decide what the right next step was. The session itself was calmer than I had expected.

We used the Caregiver Coordination service after our mother moved in with our eldest brother's family and the arrangements had become unclear over time. Having everything written down — who contributes what money, who makes which decisions — removed the guesswork. It also means we can revisit the document if the situation changes, which was important to us.

How families described their journey
The following accounts describe situations families faced, how the service was used, and what they left with. Details have been adjusted to preserve privacy.
Case Study 01 — Sibling Caregiver Coordination
Three siblings, one parent, no written plan
The situation
Three adult children in Bangkok were providing care for their elderly mother, who had moved between their homes over several years. There was no written arrangement, contributions were unequal, and tensions had developed over decisions about medical treatment and daily care.
What we did
We spoke with each sibling separately over two weeks to understand the current situation from each perspective. A written summary of existing contributions was prepared, followed by a draft care arrangement covering finances, time commitments, and medical decision-making. Each sibling reviewed and commented before finalisation.
What they left with
A written care document, identical for each sibling, covering the agreed arrangements. The family described a reduction in unspoken tension now that the expectations were on paper. They returned six months later to update one section after their mother's medical situation changed.

"Having the arrangements written down did not end all the disagreements, but it gave us something to refer back to. That made a difference." — eldest sibling, Bangkok
Case Study 02 — Multi-Party Family Settlement
Property, loans, and a grandmother's care — all in one matter
The situation
A family of five adult children needed to address three interconnected matters: the eventual distribution of the family home, money one sibling had borrowed from the parents, and who would take responsibility for their grandmother's daily care now that the parents were travelling more frequently.
What we did
We prepared a structured family document covering all three matters and coordinated conversations with each sibling and both parents. An integrated draft settlement was prepared and circulated for review. One section was revised after a family member raised a point that had not been addressed in the first draft. The final document was shared in identical form to all seven family members.
What they left with
A single written document addressing all three matters. The family described relief that the questions had been written down in a way everyone had seen and had the chance to comment on. The matter had been pending for two years before the mediation.

"We had tried to talk about these things at family dinners for two years. Having a structure and a written outcome meant we actually finished." — second child, Bangkok
